Meet the emerging abstract painter from Quebec city, Julien Villemure who spent a week at the cabin last October, along with his partner, Emilie Gagné-Loranger, a talented architect. Julien does clothing design as a way of living and recently cofounded Inconnu Studio, an architecture studio with Emilie. The geometric forms revealed in Julien’s artwork seems to reflect his vision of spaces, as a designer, but is process evokes a much more personal meaning for the artist.
Julien calls his artistic practice “an instinctive abstract exploration”. Working on his painting is a form of meditation that allows him to take the time to settle down. In parallel, the observer is immersed in a meditative state.
“ I came here to break the routine, get out of town and breathe a little. Having the entire week to focus on my art is an incredible opportunity. I have never allowed myself this luxury before. I believe it’s a necessity in itself if I want to move my project forward.”
